Title: Website Standards
Post by: Cobra {sfx} on November 12, 2005, 09:26:49 PM
Dont know if everyone reads this section but ill post it anyway, i banned a guy today who i know was helped and who started getting stroppy because he couldnt figure it out, the peeps that post replies on here (that means everyone that posts) dont do so for the good of their health, they do it out of kindness and obviously like helping people learn by sharing their knowledge.

In return they expect nothing, however i do expect people theyre helping to be polite, mature in their posts and thankful someone took time out to share their knowledge.

This site is here for people that want to learn and of course for people who want mods or come to give mods.

   Abusive posts wont be tolerated.

Remember - the world is watching :O_o

Exactly Rob,

   After 60 posts(yes 60 ..back and forth)

   Something should "Click"

   Mods-r-us Does not mean Mods-do-it-for-me

I realize most of my posts are somewhat smart assed(all in good fun)...

But i have given info (either here or elsewhere) when i am able to do so....

Sometimes i stay clear of some threads because i have a sense

of the ability of the person asking..

I have in my day helped people over MSN into Modding....I wish not to do that anymore..

Too much back and forth.....Hell one day i was 30 minutes just Telling a kid

how to open up pk3 files...

   Patience is a virtue.......Until post 60....LOL

   Carl !

A major factor in me walking away from this was the rude and impolite a**-holes posting. Especially during my short term stint as webmaster.

When it starts to feel more like a job then its no longer a hobby.

I dont know where Cobra summons up the restraint from - for which he gets respect from me!

There really is alot of knowledge in this forum if people would search for it. I am guilty of not searching a few times. But my questions were answered in a respectful manner. People need to use the seach feature in the forum alot more. Maybe the search button needs to be alot bigger hehe. You guys get my respect for running and answering all the questions. Thanks guys

Yea i've been.. swaying offtopic just a little bit. only cause im so....bored.

ive tried helping ppl on msn, its next to impossible unless they are asking quick yes or no questions. I spent 2 hours on gamespy trying to get my friend to save a file and know where it is. the convo kinda sounds like this.

"i clicked save and i dont know where i put it"

"do u see the big green button with a window on it and says start, in ur bottom left corner."

"all i see is a red x" (close button)

il try and stay on task :D

ok ok, heres one, im sure youve never heard it before.

john Q: hey, can i have the flyable planes mod?

sfx: sure, they are included in admin pro.

john Q: where is admin pro?

sfx: in the mod files section.

john Q: i downloaded it but still no planes, they dont work!

sfx: You need to execute them, there are instructions on how to do it in the pk3.

john Q: will you do it for me?

   survey says...... NO!

I really dont mind helping people, however some choose a project that is way over their head and no wonder they get frustrated, they then rely on you to piece it together for them.

Try not to get out of your depth and you shouldnt have any problems, homework is essential and like i always point out - console is your best friend - use it.

Last night a guy wanted me to help him make a FT-CTF mod with jails, this guy was having trouble spawning some barbed wire so i said no thanks, as far as i know its already been made and i know id be doing 99.9% of the scripting. (Getting out of his depth).

Good things come to those who STUDY not wait, "overnight" heroes dont really exist unless you know what your doing.

Other than that - keep trying, keep studying and most of all dont give up :)

   Edit ...

Lol what breaks - that was my damn ISP messing my account up - and it took me offline for 2 weeks :((

Also ... dont go adding me to MSN looking for shortcuts to modding or fixing scripts, this site and others has everything you need to get started, and has a larger target audience than my msn, you may find i will just block you.
