I was just on a website named Code Project and i was looking at the way you can submit Articles. I was also thinking of the rep system TMT had. Code project works as a huge information base for programming code. You can search for information and get help. I know from having to find help on programming that there are a couple of sites like Code Project in the way you submit articles and rate them and can talk about them.  SO i thought why not have soemthing like that for game code and MRU?

   

   Articles on MRU

   on Mods-r-us, users will be able to  submit articles for any game. Articles will be catagorised depending on the game and what it is an article about. Others uses can then rate the atricle. based on the rating the article owner gets rep/rate points like on TMT.  Articles can be for any game and on anything, they can be a tutorial form or just information on findings. Each article will be able to include some downloads. Each article can have a section like in the forums to talk and ask questions.

   

   As well as the articles will be the normal forum where you can ask questions or chat like normal. The forums may or may not have a rep/rate system also. The difference between Articles and just normal forums is that they will be a big section of searchable  information without all the forum questions in between.

   

   We could also have an article of the week based on rep/rate points given to it during that the week it was submited. Each user will be able to view other users profiles and see all their articles and what they have submited. Each user will also be able to showcase in their profile the mods they have made and the current project they are working on. Eventualy people will pick up on the idea. Submit articles, gain points, become a big MRU guru. new users can search through the sorted articles or ask in the forums. Search forums also.

   * Catagorise downloads into games and sub catogories

   * Fix or remove the broken stat option in the drop down list found in forums index

   * Maybe include the rep system that will be on the articles with forums?:S dunno why:S

   * Expanded user profile with their articles, input, submission, donwloads , projects , mods and other information visible.

   

   * Adverts, Adverts to be added the website to help pay for it:)

   * When using CODe tags in forum. Dont lose spaces and keep code format.

   * any other ideas :S

   * popup on recieve pm

   

   Feel free to post any comments, concerns or questions you may have. Note that these are only in the idea stage.

Its the way forward really, im all for it, ive tried to do a few things with the site but been held back for various reasons, time to progress!

sounds good dude, a really useful search system would be good as well- maybee have a field per topic/post called "key words" and just shove a load of key words relating to that article into this field, so any searches performed can track down articles more effeciently.

   Some form of reputation score - TMT use reps - reward for good support to those that need it - but not the 'rep my m8' that spoils the TMT one. Just reps for positive help to posters -  Cobra and Elgan should be the only ones that can give the rep.

   

   

   yeah thats why i thought maybe ratign system for articles instead of rep.  maybe not have it at lal in forums and only on submitted articles so your rep points in forums etc are from what u have submited. In forums people can see your rep points only?

   the poll as u say is what i mean by rate the article. Then from the rating (score) the user gets a score. The more good articles you post the better score you have. Maybe  abig list to see who is the top scoring user?

   thats not what im aiming for and why it may be excluded from the forum section. you can just rep someone for agreeing or saying a word u like. The system will be based on input via articles and scoring of them. That way to get points you have to actualy have good input.  if people say "i have 300 score points" its because they have been good and not a big mouth.

Nah Cob - dont let it be a passive system. U guys need the last say. It's ur site after all. If u wanna delegate to admins then fine - just dont loose control  :love

The undesirables can be forced to visitor only ?  They can be a source of entertainment whilst they make a fool of themselves? U already have ban option anyway.

   Would improve the site and encourage members to supply valuable info as well as news. I am all for it.

   I cant go more than a day or two without visiting even tho i dont have a svr or mod mohaa any more  - so u have have some sort of 'magic pull' to work on !!

I like the idea of rating the article, just one thing, possibly have a hyper link to a page where you can rate the article. I hate having things that clog forums and i belive that would just clog the forum and make it look tacky.

you can currently rate articles/tutorials jus look at a tutorial and click on the green squares where it says members rating

   the articles idea i have in my head wont be anything to do with the forums, it will be seperate. like www.codeproject.com where you can look at articles on stuff. So you could sibmit an article on how to debug mohaa code and people can rate it and you get a rating:)

   but workin on the site,  just making the skin neater, when the dns finaly changes, you will be able to see, some time soon when ive finaly finished making it neat, i will post a link so you can comment, then it will have some more features and plugins and stuff added, some adverts also.

   

   Then i intent to start work learning php more. i can then create the articles section i hope, with some ratings and more cool stuff. Also some webgames probably to, along the lines of an commadore64 emulator:D.

   

   any sugestions are totaly welcome btw. colour/picture , whatever u want to say. I am just trying to get things working to make things easier for everyone.

One thing I found different about this site is the new posts don't bump up to the top of the list what happens if someone replys to a post on page 2 of the forum someone like me has to look for the  green arrows and if there is one on page one I would not go to page 2 or 3 looking for more green arrows . Posts will be missed .

   hm, it does for me. I checked just now, This post and spearhead, the last 2 at this point are both at the top of the forums, under the stickeys tho. and announcements, whatever they for:D.

   

   I dont look at the imgs, i find them hard to see, maybe i will make the writing a little bigger also, maybe the images bigger, i would change them if i was any good with image editing.

without my pc i dont have much i can do atm, the beta for the next webengine version that this site uses is out nd im palying atrround, im still planning to make all these changes. new skin etc. The new skin will be when the new engine is out, This is for compatability issues. ANyway. right now, I am working on improving the search.

   

   Any suggestions, ideas on the search. it will be organised into unlimited results, but pages, so you can go to the next page etc. more options, like chose to see topics/ or posts kinda thing. For forums section anyway.

   

   Im looking at other search scripts on other sites, post nice ones, I was looking at .maps, I neevr really liked .maps, most searches are hard to use. However it has a nice feature set that could be emulateed in some way.
