Title: MOH: Airborne
Post by: Cobra {sfx} on January 19, 2006, 03:30:23 PM

Last week Electronic Arts put denial aside and finally confirmed the existence of Medal of Honor Airborne through a Game Informer cover story, but now the company's come completely clean with the official announcement about their premiere shooting franchise's first steps into next-generation.

Interestingly, this time around EA is cutting support for GameCube, even though previous installments appeared on the platform. Medal of Honor Airborne is Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC-only at the moment.

The company's really underscoring the game's incorporation of an "interactive Airborne experience," something no other war game has attempted. The press released, however, doesn't reveal many details about what makes jumping from a plane so special, but players will be able to land in different spots on the map.

Players command Boyd Travers, Private First Class of the 82nd Airborne Division in Medal of Honor Airborne as he falls behind enemy lines across Europe in Sicily, Germany and likely other unrevealed locales. The Medal of Honor series has always been a fairly linear in regards to completing objectives, whereas EA says Airborne favors a "free roaming FPS environment."

"Medal of Honor Airborne is a step in a new direction for the franchise. While integrating our state-of-the-art, next-gen technology into every aspect of the game, we are introducing innovations that will redefine the series and impact the genre as a whole," says Electronic Arts Los Angeles VP and executive producer Patrick Gilmore.

EALA was the same division responsible for the last Medal of Honor game, European Assault. I actually reviewed the game for both 1UP and Electronic Gaming Monthly, and had definite problems with the boring storyline, scattered difficulty thanks to endless respawning of enemies and A.I. without a clue what to do.

Medal of Honor Airborne provides a chance to start over, though, and I'd love nothing more than to fall in love with the series all over again; it used to be my favorite shooter.

Matt from PMOH has posted a couple questions he had answered from his conference call the other day. The most important one was, is MOHA a port from a console.

   1. Will the game be a port to the PC? If so, what console is it being primarily developed on?

No, the game will not be a port to the PC. Our goal is to create a great MoH experience on whichever platform you are playing.

   2. Will Airborne be officially supported after the game is released (i.e. additional add-ons, mods, maps, etc...)? Seeing the likes of support that Battlefield gets would dramatically increase the audience numbers and establish a reputable fanbase.

Currently the Team's focus right now is on creating the best MoH game possible and working with the community to help make this happen.

   3. Is there any initial screens/materials we can use?

Not at this time but we will make sure to send you some as soon as we can.

   Info ...

You play as Boyd Tavers of the 82nd Airborne.

Every mission begins with a non-cinematic, immersive airdrop.

Upgradeable weapons make their premiere. However, you'll have to consistently use a weapon more than others to be able to gain the ability to upgrade it.

A new animation system dubbed, "U-Cap" is being used for all facial animations and body movements.

   Cooperative gameplay will be integrated.

Perhaps they read in the mapping section that i said we need a Parachute map :P

I am waiting for some more info, maybe some screens, what engine is going to be used, anything to be available.

Not much i can say about it now, just hoping its not another PA. The "Franchise" has not been very succesfull lately.

I think they learned a lot of lessons with PA, they also say they are working with the community so we shall see if they are also listening to the community

maybe, also they always claim to work with the community, remember the Mohteam? Anyway, as i said not much

to have an opinion now, just hoping what i already said, and that its not another "rushed" product.

I hope it just isnt all American gung-ho, WW2 involved many countries, i would like to be part of the British Airborne team - the 6th Airborne and not the American 82nd Airborne.

Mhh following the line of SH and BT (of course not PA) amd due to the fact that is going to be located in the european theater, i would say that it should/probably include more than one country. At least in MP. Not sure about the SP.

also i read the engine is going to be renderware

Wouldnt be too hard to do if they added skins + more models that were used in different countries, im sure peeps would appreciate that kind of idea more.

Not sure if ive played any game made with that engine

yeah that would be a plus.

BT already have some extra skins, like italians, russians, several british etc But it would be ok too add more countries, like finnish etc

Also normally the skins in MP are according the SP story line. Would be strange to have a japanese skin if its in the european theater-.

But i wouldnt mind adding extra skins for german/alleid foreign battalions (like spanish volunteers) or just other countries armis. (in MP)

A feature i like is one we have in 1936, and its that MP skins use the weapons according to historical facts. i.e When you pick a skin you start with the weapon that skin or charachter was equipped with.  but thats me :)

and Cobra yes, if you played COD or GTA you probably played with that engine.

Yah i used to play the first MP COD, if its the same engine then wow - its gonna look nice :)

Yah Japanese skins wouldnt be needed lol but historically accurate countries and their armies should be a consideration.

A little homework and all would be well :)

im suprised that there even doing this! They said after Euro Assult for PS2 and XBOX that they were going to only do the battlefield series. Well Im glad that there starting the MOH Series back up. I hope to be able to make mods and skins for this like I do for MOHAA if it even comes out.

Im surprised myself, perhaps they have noticed a lot of MOH diehards that refuse to leave the series.

I noticed they had been in touch with Cyborg at TMT, im sure he will forward them a "wants" list of things as well as finding some good info out.
