This year and as a new idea inspired by the hard work people are putting into their maps/mods - everyone that enters will receive a prize rather than vote on 1 winner - you all do deserve it, and it is also an opportunity to add more things than ever to the Moh series and its supporters <img class="aux smiley" src="./images/smilies/smile.gif" alt=":)" />
Note: please no 1 liner script mods as i could not afford to send everyone a prize in that way, however if it is a talented piece of work that is new or very usable/likable then yes i think that warrants a prize <img class="aux smiley" src="./images/smilies/smile.gif" alt=":)" />

Listen guys that are mapping - if you make your xmas decorations so they are targetnamed or cvar controlled consider that the map could also be used all year round just by the server admins being able to enable/disable the xmas extras
If your not sure about this but think it is a good idea then do not hesitate to ask any of the scripters that are available here for advice

The person that enters the mod will get the award because if 3 or 4 people were involved then that could be costly, however there is nothing to stop people making their own things available like skins/models/global scripts etc etc.
Depending on the amount of entrants the prize will obviously be reflected by this but it will be the same type prize for all that enter

Ah what the hell I might as well take a stab at this...
Capture the Christmas Tree is a mod and map I am currently working on... Find the switch, open the gates, nab the tree and run off with it somewhere, I haven't decided yet.
Two days of hard work and I get

I'm working on some cvars so you can turn certain things off and on and a pick up and drop script for a Christmas Tree but many months without scripting makes me forget everything to do with it :p...

but i did ask how to stop it coming though the buildings , ie roofs , walls and such .
if i just add a snow script , it falls in the insides of the building and look crap .
if im going to build a map with snow ! from scratch !!!! do i need to do anything to stop the snow entering the buildings ? that's all i need to know for now

Just another update on my progress... I have the tree sorted, it has a few errors with the colours and spams the console to hell (any ideas?) but it works, including a timer which counts how long each team has held it (it even changes colours for each team :P), I've added a few lights to the map to add some more atmosphere and I am trying to figure out why the snow spams the console aswell...

as a trigger which only works for 1 player then stops working, so I need to find a better script so it will work with every player, but apart from that everything seems to be ok.
The snow is spamming because Moh only allows so much, try having a few snow flakes then stop/start it again.
In AA the tree will need its shader edited and added to your pk3 ( comment out lighting spherical i think) to stop the console spam.
Try gluing the trigger to the tree and it will always follow it around

ty m8, I will edit this either tomorrow or tonight and ill let you know how it goes, I spawn the trigger in the same location as the tree as it resets when the player dies, I think its got something to do with MOHAA bieng confused over what local.player is as it is trying to link between 2 players maybe, just dont know exactly how to sort it. It works fine when I test it with just me on my own server but when another player joins and someone dies with the tree the trigger doesnt spawn again. I'll give the sticky trigger a go though.
EDIT: Snow works fine, as does the tree... just sorting out the trigger, could be because I gave the local.player a targetname, so I have deleted the target name and edited everything with that target name to local.player

Yeah that part is fine, ive just set the spawnpoint of the trigger as tree.origin so it is attached, its just this I am having problems with:
$treeuse is the players targetname, ive just changed it to local.player instead.
EDIT: Got it working with 2 players on the server before my laptop shut down on me, dont know about more but I will be testing that soon. Oh and as an off topic note you may want to change your favicon.ico to something, its got the seditio logo there atm :p
I don't know why you want to but I am not sure you can change the players targetname . The game uses $player to refer to the player or players if it is multiplayer . If you have two players in mulitplayer they will be $player[1] and $player[2] the game automatically creates the targetname array .The first time you used $treeuse it was fine but then the second time you created an entity with the same targetname the game created the same kind of targetname array . At that point you have to use $treeuse[1] for the first player if not it won't be able to [yellow]cast 'array' to listener[/yellow] if you use $treeuse . What you should be doing is forget about the targetname and use local.player only .

EDIT: Works perfectly, no more random spawning of the tree :D, just need to remove the trigger every time it has to reset, crashes the server. Im using $treetrig remove, will this work?
my entry (as it stands now) . gotta tell ya, been running/sliding around in it with my sons and it's a blast with jv's snowcontest mod . working with viper to combine jv's snowballs and hobb's M79 nade launcher into the S69 SNOW launcher . btw, if anyone wants a banner of their's mapped in as one of the stadium signs, pm me with an image . needs to be banner/sig dimensions (ie. rectangular) .

i started a map yesterday . v2 inspired
its all underground , and each area-room is controlled by door areaportals ! .
in radiant inside and out screen shots .
i will add xmas things using script after i finish , then the map can be used still after xmas is over .
as you can see i have made it as tho the tunnels are cut out of snow , you will be needing some good snow shades

or you may just be snow blind after 10 mins of this lol .

iv got most of the entrance built to the main tunnels for my xmas entry .
the screen shot of me in the map is the sky box area & entrance to allies areas .
my sky box is the biggest box in the radiant screen shot , shows the tunnels leading from the allies main spawn area to the sky box area .
ok all i need to build know is the axis main spawn area , add some bs to make it look nice tunnels linking them all up and its done .

textures look fine in there so far . you'll use ctrl+f a lot for adjustments , also good lighting (not just lights but ambient settings) really help the textures look good . try downloading

it will give you more options ! like moving the texture left & right along the brush or up & down .
also the texture sizing ! i use the texture size on 0.5 !! it seems to look good with that size set .

F10 & F11 ?! oh that'll get changed by me real quick . those are my 'mohaa for dummies' and 'fraps' buttons . love the 'santa view' hud .
ill make sure the autoexec.cfg file is in txt format aswell for any1 that wants to change the keys

erick, I used a program called Multimedia Fusion, its kinda like a really watered down version of Visual Basic, search google for it, im sure you will find something. Its relatively easy to learn and understand.

i just got to add some spawns and lots of objects and things and i will send it in .
im not positive as to what to add for objectives , i need to fig out how to add a objective for normal game play
and some objective for xmas too .
so 1 objective can be run or the other , but in the same scr .
I will check that out but for now I have to texture a massive tower... a sniper's paradise.
Tower is textured (not that great) I am compiling the map and will get some screenies in a moment.

I am going to have to make some fake buildings because I don't have time to make every one accessible
nothing wrong with fake buildings at all . even in a big map you're not going to have access to every building as it would be time consuming to build, ruin your fps and really kill the gameplay unless you want a big game of hide and seek .
fake are just as good as usable if you make them look nice .
some window lighting and locked door sounds are good ! it make extra things to see and hear in-game .
build all the main first , then if fake are needed add them last , keeps your options open .
the fake could have rooms you can see from out side , to make them look better , and gives you options of better lighting .
also if you wanted , you could make houses but only 1 or 2 rooms that are accessible to players .
just a idea or 2 for you

this tree is changing colors

you can run this map in 3 ways .
the map is setup with xmas gifts x5 & the flak_88 as objectives by default .
you can run it with just the flak_88 as a single objective to blow up .
you can run it as x5 gifts to find as the objectives .
you can run it with the flak_88 & the x5 gifts added ! making 6 objectives to do before winning the round .
you can also take out the scrolling billboards .
you can also take out the xmas tree .
all this is done in the maps scr .
i have only run this with me , so no idea if its going to work with more than 1 player .
hope to get a test done if any1 is willing to test it for me ? .
anyways hope you all like it , its big ! and all doors are area portals ! to help fps .

site is pretty much unlimited in size since it is part of the filefront network and uses filefront for it's storage . files are usually eternal . if you want your name changed, i'll have to check with one of the other admins .

One side of the river is fully structurally built. One large building to texture and that is it for that side. Took your guy's advice and started working at the speed of a cheetah. lol. I may get it done enough to play a good map.

Anyway, im expanding one side at the moment, ive modified some existing buildings to open the gameplay more, added some new things, spent some time making a nice Paradrop

, i went through about 4 versions before errors or other things beyond my control destroyed the .map lol, currently on V5, learning as i go kinda
Im deciding whether to use the Half Track with Multiplayer AI or a Snowy Panzer that does the usual drive around blowing things up and terrorising players.
Still a lot to do and new things to test and some things to fix, the white lines in the screenshots show new or modified areas.

speaking of lighting....what lighting values are you using for ambient and such ? (ambient, farplane, sundirection...) they are almost the perfect ''snowy night'' colors (far better than mohaa's neon purple .

I dont know Storm, ive used some things from AA/SH/BT and some model conversions, however i removed most from the final just incase, they are still in the pk3 tho if modders want to play around with them
In SH/BT you may need to change the snow texture (change in snowy5.scr)

A long time ago, a friend of mine has begun a christmas-mod for such a contest to make .....
He has been working out hard, but for whatever reason however, it could not so easily done.
Now, also today, on 26.12.07, he finally finished. This is of course too late for this current award.
Now, my friend is not stupid and is of the opinion that he is for the next contest enroll with this article ......
OMAHA-BEACH IN WINTER facts of the job:
- some playerskins (santa-style)
- flying-sleigh with animated reindeers
- surprise-boxes
- 2 converted allie-vehicles
- heavy artillery barrage, both sides
- winterstyle-texturing
- a xmas-tree as third target for the allies
- and some more. not amazing, but it has to be done...
- .map-file is zip included.
inside the shelter there are no futher works done. no time, no ideas!!!!!! and no use!
also gamemodus did not change. obj is obj............. !
the ambienting was a big point of hard exercises. there was a "very cool" ambient found. but the map get unplayeable. to much fog, no view
and heavy fog inside the shelters...... no! wasnt usefull for onlinegameing.. so there is a decision found..... cold and clear sky.

you are talking about who in particular ? We all help each other even with the contests, and thats not cheating, you can check some threads from previous contests and youll see what i mean. If someone helps you or you use some other peep files, work, etc you give credit and thats it. However, theres no obligation to help no one in particular ...
No map from me unfortunately. Radiant is a little screwy on a new pc. Nice maps!!! I couldn't get a chance to play them though... I was a little tied up on Xmas.

thats the best of this kind of contests/competition/thingy everyone is winner, we all get new content. Or a least some new scripts and or prefabs. And the more i start reading here the more i want to get into mapping as well. If i look at cobra's enthousiasm its addictive :). And the big advantage of all the members here is a huge plus as well. So congrats on your all and a happy new year. Maybe next year some entry from my part.
