I call BS since when does windows change a file extension on you . Your post is really hard to read are you sure you haven't had a few too many wobbly pops ?  It wouldn't be hard to write a simple program that would change the fils extentions .

maybe you change them accidentally to open as pk3 while checking properties.

You can set pk3's to open as a compressed archive ie zip file but that does not change the extension .

Select one of the files, go to properties find the 'file types open with' and click on change and select packscape or winrar from the list, if it's not in there use browse to track down and select the program's main exe file.

The icon should change if not, open a folder, go to 'Tools'-'Folder Options' and select the tab File types and track down the type PK3 in the list. Click on it once you found it. You'll see you can change "open with" there as well. Click advanced, in the top box of the new window click change icon, select either the .exe of the .ico file of pakscape (or winrar) so it'll set the icon right.

Now everything should be back to normal. However windows has a nasty habbit of once setting a new icon clearing the "open with" option to nothing. Select the "open with" in the same box(of folder options tab "file types), choose your program again and then set the icon again.

   Hope it works.

heres how to change all the files at once using oscars renamer..open the proggy in left top window ya see win directory etc etc..browse to folder ya wanna change...once ya there ya should see all the files in right window in oscars..they will look like lines of text....next at  the top click edit then click replace...you will get a popup replace box...in top box type zip..in bottom box type pk3..then click replace all..you should see them change..next to save the changes go to file..apply changes to folder..done:)

another easy way to change your extension is to use windows command console and go to the directory where the files are located.

type in "ren *.zip *.pk3 /s" and youre finished
