Title: No fog - is he innocent?
Post by: zeb199 on January 05, 2009, 11:34:27 PM
i forced ss on a player.  he sent them within in a day without protest - at the same time claiming he is not tech savvy.  He is now conveniently playing on another computer.

He is very convincing with the argument that there has never been any fog for him until he moved to his new computer.  In other words, he's claiming he has stock mohaa but was still playing without seeing fog.

Have any of you heard of there being no fog without the cheat?  A vid card issue?

There should be fog in the screen shot below:

Remember the purple Nvidia fog where people on the other side were in a silver-leaf silhouette?

Can someone plz tell me, at least 1 good reason, how forcing a screenshot is going to counter cheaters and cheats in general? Am I missing something?? Because I have my current opinion about this which I'm not going to state because there might be some children here :P Can someone try to explain this to me?

The presence of children is due to a thing called the birds and the bees - The presence of cheaters is due to a thing called stupidity - the presence of screenshots helps keep the innocent from the temptation of stupidity.

   :)

   Zeb,

If your settings are proper then I would simply ban the character - you suspected, and he has provided you proof. I like to see screenshots and am primarily looking for unadulterated player models.

I will add the best way to even the playing field is to remove fog serverside - remove ambient server side - remove recoil serverside - that leaves wall hackers and those can be can be easily detected with a few minutes of spectate.

If you want to enjoy the extras like fog and ambience - then you need to be willing to make judgement calls that may be fair or may not be fair - it is your server so you need to call the shots.

thanks - he's been banned for a couple days now.  just entertaining his claim of innocence or naivity.

soldier of ra - you'd be surprised at the screenshots i've received from players - player models lit up and wall hacks.  I ban them, then they just do what they have to do to get back on the server....and the battle continues.

:o_O Yes I am quite suprised. Why would they want to ban themselfs, I guess they haven't got anything else to do lol.

The prescence of cheaters is there because of the following reasons:

   - Game Devs are too stupid to put efficient counter-measures into the game. Creating a game and when it's long finished, making it compatible with some crappy 3rd-party anti-cheat proggy just won't do. And putting the recoil-handling commands in the client section of the tik files is beyond my logic.

   - They allow kids below the 18 to buy and play these games. That's just asking to get cheated and flamed.

   - Some players have no life.

   - Some players are stubborn, spoiled brats.

   - People are stupid.

Conclusion: this war will wage on for all eternity lol. :D

Sometimes this happens it really depends on his video cards strength.

I can remember loading maps and not having a sky i dont hack its just one of those glitches.

Only super old video cards are going to cut the fog out.  I doubt you can even buy one that would do that these days.  He's a cheat.

the reason this shot was turned in is likely the player forgetting they have a no fog hack. someone who places such a file in their system is likely to have glow skins as part of or actually the no fog is part of a glow skin pak. The shot shows no players so the hack decided it was safe to turn this in and had a good laugh thinking he got away with it.
