Title: small computer problem
Post by: makon on January 01, 2005, 04:35:54 PM
ok it is more big than small. for awhile, 4months to be more precise, only Internet Explorer and AIM have worked online. all other programs say cannot connect to server/network or there are different errors. The main things that i used to get online but now dont work are Steam and MSN. anyone know the problem or have anyclue? if you need more information i can post a screenshot of the error or whatever. please help me! :(

go into cmd , and do a ipconfig , and a netstat put the results here :p

do you use a proxy server to connect to the internet ?

when i said did some one set it up i mean , did a techy come and set it up ? did it come with windows and other stuff ? , or did you do it all yourself

maybe the messaging is dissabled in ur pc. or the ports are blocked by router.

   or u have SP2

well if you did it yourself and you dont know what a proxy is theres no need to consider it , check in controll panel to see if you have service pack 2 (add remove programs) ( and if you have sp2 you will se an option to "show updates" )

Maybe you told your firewall accidently to not allow msngr access to the internet ? , go to your routers mantinace page *enter password if required*  find port forwarding and set it up to forward the ports msn uses ( google for them ) ,

but before forwarding try looking around to see if any are blocked through the router if not check the firewall ,anyway i would be more specific but i dont know what setup you have :p

   hope this helps

If that dosent work, I have an idea. Go to local area connection click on support and check if that is saying your ip address differently to the one in the cmd program change your ip address manually.
