.Map is closing down

   This has been known behind the scenes for a little while, but today I have to bring everybody the sad news: we are about to be closed down.



   The reason is that IGN/Gamespy are terminating the hosted site service we enjoy. The closing date is August 31st, 2009.



   It remains uncertain if .Map still has a future. Today I have requested a complete database export which, provided we can find a suitable host, can (in theory) be used to reinstate .Map (in its current form) at a different web address.



   For the moment I cannot promise anything, as the website is unfortunately not easily moved.



   IGN tech support has advised me to close down the forums from now onwards, so no posts will be lost in a migration. However I prefer to leave them open as long as possible, please bear in mind posts made after *now* might be lost in the migration process.



   Finally a major word of thanks to all our members that have made .Map a pleasant and helpful site for its 7 years and 3 months of existence. Not bad by any account .



   It's been a great time for me personally, I hope everybody enjoyed it as much. Thank you!!

Wow .... just wow. What a major blow. I never dropped by that much, but I always liked knowing it was there. To think one of the big 3 (TMT, Mods-R-Us, .MAP) may no longer exist really is a loss to the MoH community. I'm sure jv will try his best as .MAP is truly an asset.

i believe cobra said he would host it here.



   we have the resources. it would just be a case of setting up an export of the database. If jv has ftp, and can grab the skin used, it could be exported nearly exactly the same.



   If a domain name for .map is bought/got then it can have its own domain.



   www.mohaanap.com or something. isnt .map a cod site or something too? cant remember. but both can be exported.

ohhh what a shame really. Yeah, I think we could do anything on our hands not to let it die and host it here too.

It's not going down. I won't let it. I spoke to rookie when it was originally said to go down. I said back then I can host it, and the offer stands. I have unlimited space & bandwidth and I would be more than happy to help out. After all I still support the openMOHAA project.

.map long live. We just need to get ahold of Jeroen to see if he accepts my offer.

well theres something i didnt think i would hear. .map closing its doors well it aint .map its gamespy hope it keeps going.

I discussed this with JV a few days ago and offered to host it here, Elg just needs to hook up with JV to sort it out, as far as i could make out JV would be happy to have it hosted here.
